Dentists are very generous people. All of our doctors at Meridian Dental Clinic are passionate about giving back to the community and do so in a variety of ways.
Dr. Mark has elected to do dentistry for those that have fallen on hard times or are not fortunate to live in the United States. One day each month, he volunteers on the Medical Teams International dental van. There are two treatment areas on the van and the supplies needed for basic care. Dr. Mark finds this work rewarding as he knows he helping people that otherwise wouldn’t get care. The other area Dr. Mark donates his time is in the global community, traveling to Haiti each year to care for people there with Medical Relief International. The groups that take this journey actually pay to go. The Haitian people are always so appreciative and happy; Dr. Mark often feels like he receives more than he gives.
Dr. Josh gives back in other ways. Having graduated from the University of Washington Dental School he has chosen to work in the Urgent Care Clinic at the UW Dental School a couple of Fridays a month mentoring dental students as they care for patients in pain. It’s a great way to give back to the school and community helping students and helping patients! Dr. Josh also volunteers through his church. His favorite church activities are working at NW Harvest and wrapping presents at the SeaTac Mall to benefit the Des Moines Food Bank at Christmas time. NW Harvest is an amazing place. It’s incredible how they package food to feed people throughout the state. Wrapping presents at the mall is a really enjoyable activity, too! It’s always fun for Dr. Josh to see the excitement of people when they’ve bought a present for someone special and he can help with the surprise!
Dr. Steve began volunteering at the UW Dental School Urgent Care Clinic in 2008, and has found it very rewarding to educate students during the early stages of their clinical experience as they help patients who often turn to the dental school for their reduced fees. Both of Dr. Steve's parents worked in education and it's a fantastic way for him to be part of the educational system, support the dental school, and help the community. He's also been part of the official dental team for the Seattle Thunderbirds since 2008, just before they made the Kent ShoWare Center their home ice. It has been an honor associating with the team, and as a sports fan and dentist, a wonderful experience!
The office also stays involved in the community through their participation in the Kent Downtown Partnership and the Kent Chamber.
